Important task for you, Dear Reader:

Please let these people know that Voter ID is important. The commies are right now using this form to claim that requiring Voter ID is a threat to THEIR democracy.
https://www.regulations.gov/commenton/EAC-2025-0236-0001

Here is what I submitted:
To protect election integrity and prevent disenfranchisement of registered voters, we MUST add documentary proof of citizenship requirements to federal voter registration forms. This is not a particular burden, people must provide documentary proof for all sorts of things: hiring onto a new job, getting a drivers' license, opening a checking account, buying a home, renting an apartment, leasing a car, flying on a plane, buying liquor, picking up a prescription medication, picking up a package at a UPS access point, donating blood, buying a cell phone, and so on. The only people opposed to this common sense measure are people who do not want fair and honest elections.

1. Good News: Where the Intel is Good

  • Sharpie pens are made in a factory in Tennessee. Not in California, Canada, China, or some other communist country.
Which brand should you buy? [That's a rhetorical question.] https://www.amazon.com/s?k=sharpie+pens

  • On 14OCT, President Trump posthumously awarded Charlie Kirk our highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Charlie would have been 32. That was also Dwight D. Eisenhower's birthday.

  • BTW, Charlie's middle name was James. As in James T. Kirk, Captain of the Enterprise. I don't know for sure, but I doubt that is coincidence. Like Captain Kirk, Charlie was on a mission, encountered alien species, and came in peace. The alien species thing is metaphoric but fairly accurate.

  • The recent rate cut has helped the millions of small businesses who were forced to take SBA loans at Prime +3 due to the four years of the Communist Occupation have lower payments and better cash flow. But only a little. The Fed will likely cut the rate another quarter point, bringing even more relief. What would really help is if these SBA loans were automatically reconfigured to 1/2 Prime +3, even if for only one year.

  • The massive tax relief made possible by the One Big Beautiful Bill has put wind behind the sails of businesses and individuals. The commies wanted to slash the Standard Deduction, but instead it has gone up. Aside from the drop in inflation, this is the single most potent tax relief for those at or below the median wage. But there's more, see the next bullet. A massive decrease in "compliance costs" and fighting off an illegal assault.

  • On 08OCT, the Institute of Reprobates and Sociopaths laid off 34,000 gang members due to Schumer's Shutdown. This is a 46% reduction in head count! Who wooda thunk the commies would do so much damage to their enforcement arm, whose sole mission is to subjugate the population via terrorism, fraud, and abuse? This is yet another example of the low IQ problem among the commies. They cannot think past a single move, while America First is led by a 3D chess player.

  • The commies have been supporting this terrorist organization for decades. Remember when Brainless issued orders to double the IRS "work" force? At the time of the coup, IRS had 80,000 gang members. Their ranks swelled to over 100,000 as of Liberation Day. Not all were full-time; the full-time equivalent was about 90,000 positions. This is going to have a massively positive effect on the economy, especially if the layoff net snagged the worst offenders. A single IRS gang member can cost the Treasury > $100 million in direct deposits (by stealing those), while suppressing the earnings ability of thousands of innocent citizens. This is what IRS employee Kevin Brown did multiple times, and he never went to jail.

  • It is a credit to the American People that IRS had such difficulty recruiting new gang members during the Brainless administration. Despite the economic depression the commies caused, there simply were not enough American citizens depraved enough to go on the IRS payroll. That is very good news.

  • Secretary Kennedy has laid off over 1,000 useless employees of the useless Centers for Disinformation and Censorship. Jeff Childers reported in Coffee & Covid that Kennedy killed the pandemic department. This is very good news. Childers also said, "The recurring question I am asked at speaking events —more often than any other inquiry— is whether there will ever be accountability. I do not wish any ill upon all these fired CDC scientists. I am confident their unsurpassed work ethic, vast technical skills, and friends in pharma will provide them a soft landing. Their pathetic record of dismal, interminable failure and defective deception will not be held against them."

  • The Communist News Network, which errs to the side of "The Republicans don't stand a chance" has been saying that a SCOTUS overturn of the racist Voting Repudiation Act (aka, the "Voting Rights Act") would cost the communists up to 19 seats in the House. This is excellent news, as it probably means 38 seats. This is on top of all the seats the communists will lose due to being so toxic, hate-spewing, dishonest, etc. The main effect of the VRA is it has allowed the communists to redraw Congressional Districts in a way that permitted election cheating in an insidious way. This change won't affect the Senate races, because we do not have districts for Senators. Those races will favor more Republicans in 2026 because the communists are so toxic, hate-spewing, dishonest, etc.

  • Two other huge factors in the 2026 elections are 1. The communist money-laundering operations such as USAID have been dismantled (income down), and 2. Public funding for communist propaganda broadcasting has ended (expenses up). Which means the communists will no longer enjoy a massive artificial financial advantage.

  • The TDS-afflicted Nobel Committee gave the peace prize not to Trump, but to Marķa Corina Machado of Venezuela. She promptly dedicated it to President Trump and the Venezuelan people.

  • Every day, the number 47 makes me smile. While the commies subjected us to one massive FAIL after another, the current administration brings in WIN after WIN. It is amazing what can happen when you replace a bunch of retards and weirdos with bright people who are dedicated to doing their jobs instead of acting out crazy delusions. President Trump is a dynamo, and he gets fantastic things done. Some will say he was put there by God on that fateful day in Butler, PA. Others will say he is just one of millions of the oppressed who collectively took our country back. Some will say that if not for Elon Musk's bold move to break the censorship, the Trump Train would have derailed. I think we can all be thankful every day and we should recognize that Trump chose to be our leader, not some solo act, and the daily victories belong to everyone who has been contributing in some way.
  • Yep, the communist shutdown continues. Schumer's Senate allies refuse to vote on a clean resolution, even though the commies have many times done exactly that. Instead, they are holding the government hostage so they can extort repeals of some parts of the OBBB. Mostly, they want free medical care for illegal aliens. True to form, the Master Investor Super Stock Trader named Nutcase Nancy is claiming the shutdown is the fault of the Republicans. The sooner Nutcase is indicted, the better.

  • The People's Republic of California has the highest poverty rate in the USA. No surprise there, communism makes everybody worse off financially except for the psychopaths in charge of things. If the PRC would behave as if it's party of this country (for example, not eviscerating the Bill of Rights) instead of having de facto seceded, and it practiced democracy (something the Democrat Party is solidly against), it would be the most prosperous state in the union.

  • Hakeem Jeffries gets humiliated on CNBC! Can the lamestream media actually engage in the truth? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VRL-vlaJVY

  • Letitia James, who pursued a bogus case against Donald Trump in an effort to prevent his 2024 run for POTUS, has been indicted on serious criminal charges that could see her in prison for 30 years. As is always the case with prominent TDS sufferers who act out on their delusions, her own house was far from being in order. May she rot in jail.

  • One of President Trump's campaign promises, to exempt tips, overtime pay, and Social Security earnings from the 1040 tax was fulfilled with the One Big Beautiful Bill. Tips, however, were de facto already exempt under the huge standard deduction that was preserved by the OBBB even though the communists wanted to return to the pre-2017 tax law that has a low standard deduction. Now several states have added this provision to their own state income tax law. Amazingly, the People's Republic of Michigan is one of those states and amazingly Comrade Witless signed that into law! Given how close the PRoM is to becoming a free state, she no doubt decided to abandon the current commie strategy of doing incredibly stupid things that just alienate voters even more. But have no worries, her comrades in the Senate are going full throttle to ensure Communist Party defeat in the next election.

  • The Regressives have been staging their "No Kings" protests all week. I find this rather hilarious, because Liberation Day was back in January and it's been 10 months since King Cabbage was deposed and the Rule of Law was restored. His long list of unconstitutional actions as if he were king was staggering in sheer audacity. What the Regressives should be doing is staging rallies to celebrate the long list of America first, economy saving, society restoring, civil liberties restoring, war eliminating accomplishments of President 47. But they are too stupid to understand the difference.

Supreme Court Update

This court often votes 6 to 3. Why is that?

  • Justice Sotomayer is clearly demented. She should have stepped down years ago.

  • Justice Kagan, on those rare occasions when she writes a dissent, engages in extremely tortured logic.

  • Justice Brown Jackson was grossly unqualified for the post, and it shows. She asks inane questions and shows a lack of familiarity with our Constitution. She is also unable to understand and apply precedent.

The other six are highly qualified jurists, with the exception of Justice Thomas who is extremely qualified. Thomas is a giant among jurists, rivaling in stature and ability Ruth Bader Ginsberg and Anotin Scalia.

In addition to the intellectual and cognitive divide, there is also an ideological divide. The six are considered "originalists" which means that instead of seeking to legislate from the bench they apply the Constitution per its original meaning. The other three are beholden to Marxist ideology and the far left-wingers rather than to the law as stated. They do, however, have a degree of common sense. So when Mexico brought a suit against US gunmakers, Justice Brown Jackson pleasantly surprised us with her rebuke to the Mexican attorneys. Normally, someone from the left would do anything to protect violent criminals by disarming their potential victims. But Justice Brown Jackson didn't go down that Marxist path, and instead applied common sense.

Sotomayer is still lucid enough to understand how Kagan and Brown Jackson are voting, so she goes along with how they vote despite being incapable of understanding the issues or the legal reasoning involved. But if the three lefties are always outnumbered 2:1, what is the problem?

  1. A person who can't get a passing grade on her work should not have the job.

  2. It is possible for one or more of them to insert a poison pill via a dissent, distract the other Justices via inane questioning, or (as we saw with the abortion case) leak information.

  3. Three capable people are each being denied a seat on the Court. This leaves the remaining six to do the work of nine.

  4. With three seats occupied by libtards, the composition of the court could go Commie within one administration. Remember the coup that put Brainless in office and Brown Jackson on the bench?

  5. They are writing dissents that feed into the TDS and other mental problems of left-wingers, where all of the political violence and physical intimidation have been coming from for many years now. They are a threat to the six actual jurists.

What can be done? Traditionally, we have played the "wait it out" game wherein we wait for someone to die and then the current administration appoints a replacement. Just as Ginsberg stayed WAY past her freshness date, the two older lefties will stay way past theirs. Demented Sotomayer already has. Brown Jackson is only 55, she could be on the Court another 30 years. Kagan is 65, so maybe another 20 years for her. Waiting does not seem to be the answer. It is almost certain that all three of these nitwits got the spike protein jab, and it is a life expectancy reducer. One or more of them may need to quit due to mRNA jab injuries. But that is also a waiting game.

What can be done is Sotomayer can medically be declared incompetent. If each Justice is required to undergo cognitive testing, she will be forced to step down.

But isn't that testing dangerous for the non-commies too? Not currently and not so far. Sotomayer is the only Justice who is clearly addled. If the great Jurist Clarence Thomas becomes addled, his wife Ginny will likely see to it that he steps down. This would preserve his legacy and his dignity. While no longer "a thing" with those on the left, integrity is very important to those on the right. Chief Justice Roberts needs to make this a policy, instead of taking the easy way out and relying on his 6 to 3 majority. See the problems enumerated above.

It could be that Roberts wants to avoid a TDS backlash by delaying this move until Trump's successor (who certainly won't be a commie, and who likely will be JD Vance) takes office. He's got to do this kind of calculus, because the commies have been trying to incite assassinations of the six actual Justices. And by then, Sotomayer's dementia will be far worse. If she hasn't died from it by then. Meanwhile, Justice Brown Jackson is an attentive apprentice judge who is learning from the six and who is sometimes thinking for herself rather than being a shill for the Marxists. That could leave Kagan the sole dissenter in most decisions. A SCOTUS that votes 8:1 on the right side of each case would not be bad.

3. Brainpower tip

At first glance, something can seem to be good as presented. This is the basis for every con ever run. Most cons fail upon "first level" questioning.

As an example, take DEI. I forget exactly what it stands for, something like Diversity, Exclusion, and Idiocy. Maybe I have the last two wrong, but I do recall "diversity". Diversity sounds like a positive thing. You want people who don't parrot the same narrative. You want to take in diverse views. You don't want "yes men". So heck yeah, let's do it. Except.

Except what? DEI isn't about diversity at all. DEI:

  • Sets racial quotas for hiring, promotion, and retention. Instead of seeking the best candidates, promoting the best people, and retaining top performers.
  • Creates an alternate language full of unclear, malleable terms. This defeats any real effort to understand what's going on or to move toward goals that bring real rewards as opposed to fake ones.
  • Enforces conformity of thought and speech, rather than diversity of thought and speech.

A first level question is, "How exactly does this work? Walk me through it." And there's where DEI fails. Not much analysis needed to see it must be rejected.

When Nutcase Nancy was Speaker of the House, I signed up for her newsletter. Each issue is full of lies, histrionics, and absurdities. In the first week of this month, she came out of the gate condemning the "Republican Shutdown" and then going into histrionics about the people being harmed. Of course, this being the Nutcase Newsletter, it's axiomatic that the truth is the opposite of what she's saying. But let's assume most of her readers don't know that. How can they see the con?

One way is to take a few minutes to look into the issue. The Republicans had already proposed a politically neutral Reconciliation Bill and it was passed in the House. The "Democrats" (communists), led by Schumer, insisted they would oppose the Reconciliation Bill unless certain extreme demands were met. Those demands included restoring some expensive Biden-era things that the One Big Beautiful Bill removed. An example is free medical care (they keep calling it "health" care for some reason) for illegal aliens, medical care that citizens on Medicare do not even get. One cost of this during the Biden era is hospitals were overwhelmed and thus turning away citizens who were on Medicare and who came in for things Medicare covered.

The Republicans call this the Schumer Shutdown, but Nutcase calls it the Republican shutdown. The relevant facts I related in the previous paragraph were covered even by the lamestream, leftwing media. So a simple search on leftwing-censored Google will pull up those very facts. If you go to a less-censored search engine such as Bing or an uncensored one such as Duck Duck Go, you will also find these facts. There is no excuse for not knowing them, other than laziness.

It turns out that a simple search like this eviscerates EVERY commie claim made since the coup. All the BS spewed by the Communist Party during the four years of the Communist Occupation? Dead wrong. During Cackling Kamala's campaign? Dead wrong. And so on. Have any Republicans lied? Yes. But there is a difference between 100% lying and 4% lying. A very big difference.

Simple first level questioning and simple fact checks are both easy to do. Yet, here we are with a Senate and House that barely have a Republican majority. That tight balance means we have gross cheating in elections (we do), an intellectually incurious and easily duped block of voters (we do), or both. It's both. Since the coup, there has been tremendous progress in election reform. Since Liberation Day, actions such as killing the Democrat Party money-laundering operation called USAID has really helped. But still, there are too many people who fall for the con. Since nearly all of the BS can be detected and exposed with the two simple techniques I described, we can see there is also a strong element of mindless acceptance.

Something each of us can do to stop communism is to coach other people in these two techniques, but outside any discussion of communism or "politics". A person who routinely uses these techniques simply will not vote Democrat (communist). And that is because every Democrat Party position fails the truth test when these techniques are applied.

Outside of politics or saving our republic from communism, these two simple techniques are very useful. They can save you from being conned into buying useless insurance, getting useless vaccinations, buying useless supplements, giving in to processed food advertisements, adopting false narratives, getting stressed out about global warming, taking out an overly expensive loan, or falling for any of the hundreds of cons run each day.

Those who believe that brainpower is a luxury they don't have time to use, or that using it will alienate them socially, pay a heavy price. It costs them more than just money, it costs them their humanity. They are deluded that their virtue signaling makes up for this. It is so easy to prevent this semi-existence, yet they will not do it. Make sure you do.

4. Finance tip

Socialism is based on bad theory, which helps explain why it has always failed and usually failed spectacularly. Capitalism rewards risk, so people are willing to take risks to create wealth. Socialism rewards sloth instead, so that's what you get.
  • Consider what it takes to earn an engineering degree. Or a Nursing Degree. A medical license. A Master Electrician license. These are not light endeavors, why bother if you do not reap a reward for doing so? Look at how many inventions, new business ventures, new careers, and even new art projects (including movies) require significant risk.
  • Capitalism enables people to generate wealth. Socialism spreads poverty, instead.
  • The basic definition of socialism is there is central control of the means of production and distribution. Central control is done by the government. People doing the controlling have no feedback mechanism or market control, they just guess and hope for the best. They are usually wrong.
  • Under capitalism, the market makes the decisions. If people don't like the new Widget, they won't buy it. Under socialism, a bureaucrat decides that widget is great and orders millions of them to be produced.
  • Capitalism is a system that gives everyone a chance to win or even win big. Socialism is a system that ensures everybody loses.

Given these facts, it's pretty clear that socialism is a major financial threat to each of us. When it comes with deprivation of property rights, then you have communism.

And during the four years of the Communist Occupation, any lingering notion that socialism might possibly work better than capitalism was emphatically and empirically debunked. Since Liberation Day, we have been able to do a direct comparison between these two systems.

  • Before the coup, the USA had a great economy.
  • Communist policies sent us into an economic depression with massive inflation and a very bleak outlook.
  • Since Liberation Day, we've run monthly budget surpluses.
  • Since Liberation Day all of the economic numbers have done a 180 and are now pointing in a healthy direction.

The communists could come back. They are itching to. Their strategy includes inciting violence against people who are pro-capitalism, pro-rationality, pro-freedom, pro-America, or any combination of those. Of course, pity the fool who is a white male Christian, the lowest of the low. With Jews maybe below that, the haters are not sure yet.

To stop the communists from returning to power, there's not a lot we have to do at the moment. The tide is on our side. They have been stripped of their money laundering system to fund their campaigns, they are repulsing people with the hateful things they say, they have been exposed repeatedly and undeniably as incompetent, and election reform has put a serious dent in their ability to "win" elections.

But we still must do small things to keep the momentum:

  • If you know pro-communists, for example people who had a Kamala sign in their yard about a year ago, lightly engage them in a conversation in which you can subtly suggest we are far better off than we were a year ago. "I noticed the national debt stopped growing, and that means no more inflating the money supply to cover deficits".
  • If someone mentions the NYT or CNN, wrinkle your nose and show your disgust. Say something like, "They insult the intelligence of any thinking person. What rot they publish."
  • Donate to the campaign funds of America First candidates, even if it's just $25 one time. It will make a difference.
  • Vote in person.
  • Stick up for Trump. Example is below.

Example of sticking up for Trump

My blue-pilled, pro-commie neighbor Bob has a walking habit. Great for Bob, this is a good habit to have. He used to walk down my block to finish his route (we live on the same street and have the same house number, except his is one block higher). This would be after a brisk pace walk that was usually over six miles.

He would often stop to join an ongoing chat or start one with someone who was outside. I like Bob, and we have some similar interests. But not long after Liberation Day, he hopped into a chat and started making derogatory remarks about President Trump.

I said, "Well, you are entitled to ignore the facts and hold opinions that conflict with them. But I love President Trump. I would do anything for the man."

He started laughing nervously, "You're joking, right?"

I said no. Then he laughed as if I had said something hilarious. As he walked away, he was still laughing. This was because in the face of a view outside his own disinformed echo chamber, he had no idea what else to do. I have not seen him since, and it's been many months.

As with all lefties, TDS sufferers, and the lot, he didn't cite an example of why Trump was "bad". He did the usual name-calling and other histrionics, echoing what he mindlessly accepted from leftwing media. But I can tell I put a serious crack in his edifice of leftism. If we all do that in the face of leftist spewings even only part of the time, it will pour cold water on their toxic "virtue signaling" and significantly help us prevent another communist occupation with its requisite economic depression.

5. Security tip

This is from the Bank of Labor. You can replace their name in the article with the name of any bank.

Protect your personal data from phone spoofing scams

What is Phone Spoofing?
Spoofing is the act of disguising a phone number to impersonate a trusted entity or source. Scammers are using this tactic to con bank account holders into providing their personal data to gain access to their online banking accounts by impersonating their financial institution’s fraud department.

How Does It Work?
Scammers will phone their victims claiming to be calling from a Bank’s Fraud department to alert you about suspicious activity on your account. They may claim that unauthorized access has occurred on your account or that there is a fraudulent pending charge. The scammer will then proceed to request your personal information such as your online banking user ID, password, answers to your online banking security questions, and/or social security number to access your account.

Tips to Identify Spoofing:

  • Check Numbers. Carefully examine the phone number that’s calling you. Scammers will often use a number similar to one you know to make it appear legitimate. In some instances, the phone number could appear to be the same as the institution that they're trying to impersonate. For example, the caller ID may be listed as 913.321.4242, but rest assured that it is not Bank of Labor calling you with questions about your personal security information.
  • False Urgency . Scammers will try to create a sense of urgency to pressure you into giving information to them immediately. DO NOT give your personal data over the phone no matter how critical the situation may appear.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) offer several other tips and resources to help combat phone spoofing scams.

What To Do If It Happens to You:
Bank of Labor will not call you with personal questions. If you receive a phone call from someone claiming to be a Bank of Labor employee, hang up and call us back at (913) 321-4242 or 855-451-9204 so we can help verify any possible customer communication from the Bank.

6. Health tip/Fitness tips

Age 65 in these pics

See all of my climbing videos here: https://tinyurl.com/ClimbingSigChannel. Some cool climbing  videos:

My hardest climb ever, a 5.11d on lead: https://youtu.be/UT5h0heUUBc . I made a dumb mistake initially, letting the rope wrap over my shoulder. Watch what happens.

The scale:

  • Beginner: 5.6. 5.7. 5.8, 5.9  (roped) / VV, V0, V1, V2 (boulder)
  • Intermediate: 5.10a, b, c, d ;5.11a, b, c, d  / V3, V4, V5, V6
  • Advanced: 5.12a, b, c, d; 5.13a, b, c, d. / V7, V8, V9, V10.
  • Elite and Pro: Even harder. Almost nobody climbs at either level at any of the 6 local climbing gyms.
Let's talk about gymtimidation. It seems to keep many people from making any serious effort at training and/or from taking up a sport.

The main thing for men is, "I am not very strong, I will look like a wimp if I go in there."

Answer: If you go to a gym, nobody cares how much you lift. Just about everybody else thinks everyone else is watching them, so they are not watching you. You might, however, catch the eye of someone who really knows what he is doing. He may have seen you a couple of months ago and is impressed at how much you've improved. Or he notices you really try. Maybe he will decide to take time out to give you a tip or offer to be your spotter. He doesn't care that you lift way less than he does, he cares that you lift. If you're old enough to be their dad or grandma, they are super-impressed not turned off.

The main thing for women is, "I am too fat."

Answer: If you go to a gym, there's no sign on the door saying you can't be fat. Most everyone else inside is focused on either their own training or their own insecurities. Some people joined a few years ago and are still fat, but they go because they enjoy the experience. Some people joined a few months ago and are thrilled with the transformation taking place. And yes, some people will notice you are fat. Consider the woman who has that cover model body. She's very serious about her training. She is taking a short rest, and because she steals glances your way, you think she's texting about you. Her texts:

  • OMG, she's here!
  • She's lost 20 lbs in 3 months, I swear!
  • What an inspiration.
  • I need to introduce myself. Do you think she will like me?
Yes, really. So stop putting yourself down.
What about a sport or other activity?

If you take up yoga, take a martial arts class, get into dancing, or decide to devote a year to climbing despite being old or out of shape, the people who are good at this stuff will notice not how bad you are at it but how much heart you have. If you think these people are looking at you, it's not because they are judging you. It's because they are inspired by you. The relative ability level isn't part of the calculus.

I have been climbing for over 25 years. For the first 15 years, I had no clue what I was doing and just muscled up the routes. I hit a ceiling, not being able to go beyond the beginner range. Then I decided to get serious about learning how to climb. That was a decade ago. See the scale above (in the box next to the top photo). I will typically try at least one 5.12a or b if at a tall wall gym. I might make half a dozen attempts on one, then move on to another for just as many attempts. A few years ago, I wasn't able to even start one of these and now I routinely do the first few sequences.

The people I climb with are dedicated climbers, and we are climbing at the top of the intermediate range. Sometimes an advanced climber will join an ad hoc group just to have a belay partner (there aren't that many advanced climbers). I've been lead climbing for a while, and have lead climbed a 5.11d, the very top of the intermediate range.

Earlier this year, a medical student who had just gotten lead certified asked me to belay her. She climbed a 5.9, and really struggled with it. What was my response? I didn't talk about her climbing at all, I gave her feedback on her clipping. She offered me a belay, and knowing she needed to work on her belay skills I readily accepted. I chose a 5.10 for two reasons, one being I didn't want to "show her up" by hopping on something really hard. The second reason was I wanted her to be able to work on her belay technique without anxiety. She short-roped me a couple of times, which is normal for new lead belayers. When we were done, I mentioned something she did well and thanked her for it.

Is it because I am a nice guy that I treated her this way?

Not, that's not it. I treated her this way because that's the climbing culture. It's expected. I have been treated this way, and am thankful for it. Climbing is expensive and very difficult, so it's not for everybody. It is also physically demanding, you need a strong core and good body kinesis so it's not a sport you should take up to "get in shape" if you are way out of shape. You will be disappointed and discouraged by the actual climbing. But most climbing gyms today have weightlifting equipment or even fully outfitted weight gyms. So you could start there and then add in climbing later.

Another factor when considering a sport is to determine whether you can participate with people who are at your ability level. I don't mean your age, I mean your ability level. I am really, really old for a climber and yet I have a fairly high ability level. Someone younger by, say, 50 years, will progress faster and surpass me. I climb with people in a wide range of ages, but within a fairly narrow range of ability. My friend Alejandro is a climbing coach who climbs 5.13s without seeming to struggle. We do not climb the same problems, there is just too much of a gap. But I'm happy to belay him and vice-versa. A couple of months ago, I was with about a dozen intermediate climbers and we were commiserating about a particular problem that had kicked all of our butts. One of the guys in the group belayed Alejandro, who scooted right up it in practically no time. We were not humiliated by this, we just know we are not in his league. And we are fine with that.

My neighbor has a canasta club. I've never played. If I decided to take up that game, I certainly would not try to join her club. I would find one for beginners. There are many things (in addition to canasta) that I am just not good at. I don't let this bother me, because there are many things that I am very good at.

There are things I used to be good at that I am not so good at anymore. In preparation for my Age 65 Photoshoot, I wanted to do a tornado kick. There's a photo of me from 2011 doing this kick (see below). I started working on it this summer, and could not do it! This was due to lack of practice.

But I had been doing slow motion kicks for practice, so shot this instead: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-FLA9Lv-QE. After making the video, I told my Kung Fu instructor who taught me this kick and other Tae Kwon Do moves (in maybe 1981) I had slacked off and lost the ability but I would work on it. He said he wasn't worried. If I walked into a martial arts school today, with which group would I train? I queried one school, and they said my rank would be "Master" and not to worry about it. I guess once you get old, people cut you some slack.

And I would say that's a great lesson for older people (those over 40!) who fear taking up a sport or going into a gym. People will cut you a lot of slack, you do not have to get an A on your report card. You just need to show up and show some heart.
