Summary

The Optimale Testosterone Evaluation Kit allows you to know your level of testosterone and other hormones without spending several hundred dollars at a clinic. Take a sample, send it to the lab in the prepaid mailer, and receive accurate results by mail or e-mail.

Know what your body is doing and what hormonal environment you are working with. You can get other tests done on the same sample for additional fees, but there are no additional fees for the testosterone test.

I paid $300 for a blood-based testosterone test plus the doctor's office visit fee. So being able to get a testosterone test using a kit that costs less than half the doctor's office fee is one heck of a bargain!

Saliva v Blood

Based on more than twenty years of research, salivary hormone assessments have become a preferred method of measuring hormonal health. Why? Because saliva-based testing measures only the free levels--the active part that matters. The protein-bound fraction is filtered out.

Testosterone exists in serum (blood test method) both free and bound to albumin and to sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) (testosterone binding globulin). Unbound (free) testosterone is the active moiety.

With a blood-based testosterone assay (which measures both bound and unbound levels), something undesired can happen in certain settings: total testosterone can be normal, but free testosterone outside normal parameters. This means the results are misleading. You could have abnormally high or low active testosterone but not know it despite being tested!

The saliva-based test removes that error.

In addition to being less expensive and more practical than blood testing, what's really important for you to know is salivary assessments measure the active (bioavailable) levels of hormones rather than the inactive (total or bound) levels of hormones.

How it Works

This kit consists of a sample vial, simple instructions, and a pre-paid mailer. It's really very easy to use.

The steps are basically:

  1. You take a sample in the morning, and fill out the short information form.
  2. You put the sample in the freezer for 3 hours.
  3. You mail the sample.

The short information form that comes in the kit is basically the order form for the testosterone test, and it allows you to purchase additional tests to be done on the same sample.

You can see the Kit Instructions, if you're curious about how to take the sample.

Uses

Some of the things you can do with the test results:
  • Know for sure if your fitness supplementation program is working.
  • See just how much your core exercises are raising your testosterone.
  • See if you are overtraining or possibly undertraining.
  • Know whether your body is making enough testosterone for proper bone health.
  • Get early indication of male gonad disorders or dysfunctions.
  • Identify low testosterone levels so you can take proper corrective action.
  • Identify low DHT levels so you can take proper corrective action (DHT test costs about $30 extra, but uses the same sample).
  • Identify low levels of other important hormones, using the same sample (for modest extra fees).

Why It Matters

Low testosterone and DHT levels can greatly affect energy, bone health, mood, physical strength, and sexual function. Modern lifestyles and chemical pollution can cause elevated levels of male estrogen which can:
  • Reduce libido.
  • Increase body fat.
  • Increase recovery times and muscle soreness following hard training.
  • Increase your risk of cardiovascular disease.
  • Increase your risk of prostate disease.
  • Leave you feeling fatigued, irritable, or apathetic.

The proper balance of DHEA and cortisol make up the body's inner defense against the pressures of stress, helping your body adapt in a healthy manner.

You might want to read the hormone information that comes with the Optimale Kit.

For Women

This kit also works for women. Because testosterone provides the signal that tells your body to store calcium in your bones, low testosterone is a primary risk factor for osteoporosis.

That doesn't mean more is better, just that you need enough testosterone for the essential signaling function. Write on your test form that you are a woman, and the lab will notify you if follow-up is needed.

Other Tests

The other tests you can have done on the same sample are:
  • DHEA.

  • DHT.

  • Estrogen.

You can read about the importance of these on the hormone information sheet that comes with the Optimale Kit.

Take the Quiz

Testosterone dysfunction symptom self-assessment quiz:
  • Do you feel fatigued?
  • Do you have an aching testicle (or both)?
  • Have you ever had a broken bone?
  • Is your body fat level in the double digits?
  • Have you noticed a waning sex drive?
  • Are you experiencing impotence?
  • Is it difficult for you to maintain an erection for more than 15 minutes or to get one more than twice a day?
  • Do you backbite instead of confront people who cross you?
  • Do minor things make you feel sad, depressed, or overwhelmed?
  • Do you find it hard to get through the day (feeling depressed, irritable, or unmotivated)?

If you answered yes to two or more of these questions, you could be suffering from male hormonal imbalance. Find out for sure, so you can take your test results to a qualified physician to identify and correct the underlying cause(s).

Optimale Testosterone Test Kit #4430001; test your testosterone

Testosterone dysfunction cause self-assessment quiz:

  • Are you under much stress?
  • Are you over the age of 35?
  • Do you eat foods that contain high fructose corn syrup, or foods that contain hydrogenated oil? If you don't know, go right now to your cupboard and read your food labels.
  • Do you eat at restaurants more than twice a week?
  • Are you using a testosterone booster (which can shut down your body's own testosterone production)?
  • Are you using a pro-hormone testosterone booster? These can shut down your body's own testosterone production.

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, you need to test your testosterone.

Tips

Testosterone-boosting Tips
  • Diet. Read your labels. Don't eat anything that contains any of the following testosterone-reducing substances: high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oil, bleached flour, bromated flour, or corn syrup solids. Avoid sugar, as well--it boosts insulin, which depresses testosterone.

  • Rest. Americans are chronically sleep-deprived. This is a core factor at the root of the stupidity epidemic that has recently caught the attention of the media. It is also a barrier to testosterone production, partly because it raises the level of testosterone-antagonistic cortisol.

  • Work your core. This means doing squats or deadlifts twice a month (no more than that, or you actually lower testosterone) and doing them with intensity (read this intensity article).

Reviewer: Jorge Garcia (Oakland, CA)

For the past couple of years, I've had low energy, weakness, and other symptoms that I now know were due to low testosterone. The doctor had put me on antibiotics, and that didn't work. Then I tried high potency B vitamins and that didn't work. Actually, I tried a lot of stuff that didn't work because I didn't know what problem to solve. For reasons I won't go into, my girlfriend thought I had low testosterone so she ordered this kit for me. After I got my test results back, I was able to work on the actual problem. I found some good information on supplecity.com and after making some fairly simple changes find I am feeling much better. And, importantly, my girlfriend is happier now.

Reviewer: Larry Collins (Boise, ID)

I had a testosterone test in 2006, and I remember I spent all afternoon. With this home sample kit, it takes only 15 minutes. The other interesting thing is the blood test turns out to be useless even though it costs $300 (yes, I remember the cost--what a ripoff). I found out from this test that my testosterone is near the middle of the normal range. I'm not having any problems, but it's just good to know where I am with things. Given the low cost and minimal time involved with this testosterone test kit, I am thinking of doing it every year just before my birthday.

Reviewer: Mike Brodin (Atlanta, GA)

I bought one of these testosterone test kits after a buddy suggested it. My doctor had me on one prescription med after another and these were causing problems. It turned out I had low testosterone. Amazingly, my doctor said he would prescribe yet another med for that and I told him to take a hike. I went on a special program of exercise (found info on this website, how's that for service?) and changed my diet (gave up cereals, for one thing). My energy definitely started going up. Two more test kits later, I verified that my T also went up. First it was just inside the normal range. Now it's at the high end of normal. And no pills or potions! My wife is also happy because I have my libido again. If we had not known that T was the problem, I would still be on meds that would probably have me on death's doorstep by now.

Reviewer: Juan Sanchez (Amarillo, TX)

I wish they could give me the results the next day after they get my sample. It would be nice to be able to check a box and pay an extra fee for that. But they did send me info by e-mail, so that was good.

5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 My doctor is impressed, 2.6.2011
Reviewer: David Berard (Dallas, TX)

My doctor had previously used the $300 blood test, thinking it was accurate. After looking over the actual facts, he says he will never use the blood test again. I'm also on a program to naturally raise my testosterone and we can tell it's working. The biggest change was to reduce the amount of grain in my diet. Without this test, I would have been on expensive and potentially harmful T meds due to inaccurate results from the $300 blood test.

5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Very helpful, 12.22.2010
Reviewer: Andy Weaver (Raleigh, NC)

After spending lots of money on protein powders, personal trainers, gym membership, and doctors visits, I finally found out why I wasn't able to put on muscle. Low T. And, thanks to Mindconnection, I found out it was caused by diet. I made a few changes, my testosterone went up, and now I see new muscle for the first time in several years. It sure pays to know what you're working with.
