Modem drops out unexpectedly....
What is probably happening |
What to do |
If not an IRQ conflict with mouse: could be RFI, phone system cabling, phone system connections |
Move cellular phones, cordless phones (especially 900 MHz), and laser devices as far from your computer as possible. |
Inspect connections at the phone service jacks and anywhere from there to the modem. Inspect the wiring for routing past high current/high power cables or other sources of noise. This problem happens with modems, whether they are dialup, cable, satellite, or DSL. If you can find no source of interference, contact your ISP to see if there is trouble in your area. If not, go visually inspect your connections all the way back to the ISP's sealed connection point. Ask for a "cable guy" or other infrastructure technician to inspect those connections. You may pay a small fee for them to inspect your point of use setup, too, but that may be well-worth it. Problems with your infrastructure (routing, grounding) could end up zapping your computer entirely. You would lose the computer and all the data on it. |
