An introduction to Astrology and its concepts |
| Astrology reaches way back, several thousand years, so it is
nothing new or transitory. For many, Astrology is an effort to fill the void left by
"official" religions. Some see Astrology as the real explanation for what occurs
in life. Still others just use it as a way to prove deeper truths, to connect with the
larger universe, to connect with the spiritual world, or to see beyond earthly limits.
Because of the fragmented approaches to, and practices of, Astrology, there is no official
body governing it or no single truth that represents all of it. Herein are explanations
most practitioners seem to hold in consensus. Astrology is the study of the influence of planets on people. The concept here is planets themselves are beings and all beings are connected. Chakra are collectively an expression of our spirits through our physical bodies. Chakra is a Sanskrit word that means "spinning wheels." Chakra has to do with keeping a balance between the physical, emotional, astral, and other "wheels" about us. Channeling occurs when you pass information from your spirit guardians (God, higher power, higher self, the force, or inner voice) to your own consciousness. Prophecy is a form of channeling, used by prophets, seers, and shamans—and it is common to cultures that have no common ties other than their human DNA. Lightwork is a vague term that includes such things as healing energies, meditation, harmonic convergence, and communicating with ascended masters. Lightwork involves rediscovery of inner powers people forgot they had. Mysticism comes from the Greek "mystos," which refers to keeping silent, or shrouding. Before the days of widespread literacy, ancient masters passed knowledge verbally to their disciples. To keep their power base intact, both masters and disciples kept silent about this knowledge. Much of it had to do with valuable primitive medicine and some basic science the typical person had no knowledge of. Since knowledge gave these people their power, they were mystic about sharing it. Reincarnation (literally, "becoming meat again") holds with it the promise of repeated experiences of life on earth, perhaps toward some goal not yet attained. This philosophy transcends the life-death barrier, but various believers differ on the amount of control held by the individual as to what the reincarnated state might be. Theosophy attempts to transform Veda and Dharma into a theological framework. Just as Catholicism came about in the 3rd Century AD as a means of adapting Christianity into the existing religious references, so did Theosophy come about in the 19th Century to adapt the meaning of life given by Veda and Dharma into the framework of materialism and Western references. Veda and Dharma are very-related concepts that have to do with dedicating your inner knowledge to a reason to live.

The Only Astrology Book You'll Ever Need The author gives an easy, logical way to integrate the interpretations of the sun signs, moon signs, planets, and houses in any given chart, something not easily done or often seen in general astrology books. The book's only shortcoming is its lack of instruction on making a detailed technical chart, which is necessary if one is to cast a complete and accurate horoscope. However, Woolfolk compensates for this by teaching a simplified method that is about 90 percent accurate enough to get a beginner started and includes a bibliography for further instruction. Astronomical tables are included to help cast the simplified chart. A great bargain for the price, this is highly recommended for all astrology collections.
