Problem Solution
I clicked on "Add to Cart" and nothing happened.
Look at the very top of the page. Click on the Basket symbol.
Cart quantity is wrong.
You can change it by typing in the right number and then clicking Update button.
I clicked on "Checkout," and keep coming back to the same screen.
Click the Continue button. You might have to page down to see it.
In checkout, I get a message that a required field is missing. But I filled everything in!
Open the "Bill To" side. Look at the country. Check the various blanks.
Why don't you have more shipping options?
Because certain items ship only certain ways. This is an effort to make it simple.

You have a lot of payment options, but not e-checking or a way for me to send you a check.

I selected my credit card, but nothing happens.

Make sure you have all of your information entered in correctly.

  • Especially check the country, state (or Other State) in the Bill To area (click the box to open it, if it's not open).
  • Look for spaces at the end of entered information. Especially your credit card number.
The #1 cause of this is "over limit." Please contact your credit card company if you get a credit card rejection after verifying your information.
I called and got no answer.

We recognize that not everybody can pay by credit card or PayPal. Thus, we do provide other options. We try to make them easy for you.

We do our best to ensure the fastest delivery possible.
Delivery Process
  1. The warehouse gets the order, processes it, sends it to the shipping department.
  2. Shipping packs the order, prepares it for pickup by UPS, FedEx, etc.
  3. The shipping company (UPS, FedEx) picks it up late that afternoon.

Notice, there's a chain of events, here. Please allow time for it. It may take an hour or even several hours for your order to be ready to ship.

Many factors affect this. These include the number of other orders, and any number of problems being handled with your order or other orders. People try very hard, but, like you, they can do only so much.

On Mondays, our suppliers are processing weekend orders in addition to Monday orders. Order processing for physical items occurs only on regular business days--when the warehouse is open and people are working there.

Delivery Times

People often get confused on delivery times. The following will help you understand how this works. Keep in mind that the delivery companies count business days only, and do not deliver on weekends or holidays. Or during major storms or during electrical blackouts, or during terrorist attacks....

Our vendors process orders usually on the same day. The times shown below assume this, but you may need to add one day for complete accuracy.

 

Sample Scenarios

Let's assume you place your order at midnight on Thursday, and all of your information is correct (e.g., no PO Box for Ship To). UPS (or maybe FedEx) picks up your order on Friday.

  • Next Day Air. Friday is Day One. You receive it on Monday. If Monday is a holiday, you receive it on Tuesday.
  • 2nd Day Air. Friday is Day One, Monday is Day Two. You receive in on Monday. If Monday is a holiday, you receive it on Wednesday.
  • Three-day Select. Friday is Day One, Monday is Day Two, Tuesday is Day Three. You receive it on Tuesday. If Monday is a holiday, you receive it on Wednesday.
  • UPS Ground. This is 3 to 5 business days from the day your order ships.

Let's assume you place your order at 0900 Central Time on Tuesday.

  • Next Day Air. You receive it on Wednesday.
  • 2nd Day Air. Wednesday is Day One, Thursday is Day Two. You receive in on Tuesday. 
  • Three-day Select. Wednesday is Day One, Thursday is Day Two, Friday is Day Three. You receive it on Friday.  If Monday is a holiday, you receive it on Thursday.
  • UPS Ground. This is 3 to 5 business days from the day your order ships.

Now, let's assume you place your order at 1400 (that's 2PM if you use a 12hr clock) Central Time on Monday. This is a very busy day. The order was received too late to be filled on Monday, so it will follow the same delivery schedule as though it had been placed early on Tuesday.

Suppose that, in these delivery scenarios, there is a major weather problem or electrical blackout. What can we expect, then? Add at least one or two days for the delivery, even if you specified overnight delivery. For example, you specify overnight delivery at 0900 on Wednesday. The eastern seaboard is buried in snow that night. You will probably get delivery on the following Tuesday.

Gift advice
  • Don't try to time delivery to the day something needs to be there. Allow yourself more time. You will be glad you did.
  • Tip: If you are ordering an electronic device, plan on giving the actual device outside of the event being celebrated. There's a limited time available to evaluate the product. See our return policy.
  • If you don't want to give the gift before the event, what can you do? Very simple. Just print out the product description and picture of the item and provide that along with the birthday card or whatever. Give the actual gift, later. We can ship it to the recipient, or to you--whichever you prefer.
Shipping method vs. arrival

Choosing overnight delivery doesn't guarantee you'll get the item the next day. It means the delivery company will try to deliver your order the next business day after they pick it up from the warehouse. The warehouse may not have it ready in time for the pickup until the following business day, weather may prevent next day delivery, and people can make mistakes.

Trip advice (typically for translators)
  • Don't wait until just before you leave to place your order. A delivery delay might mean the product arrives after you are gone. This does not mean you get a refund on the shipping; the shipping service was performed and cannot be "returned."
  • Though these devices are manufactured to high quality standards, they sometimes need warranty replacement even when new. This is rare, but why take the risk? One customer's device arrived in a package that looked like the delivery truck had run over it (we're pretty sure some kind of vehicle ran over it). Amazingly, the device still worked--even with a cracked screen.
When it absolutely, positively must be there by a given day

If you are planning delivery for a birthday, for having the product before going on a trip, or for some other reason where time is of the essence, do the following:

  1. Order ASAP.
  2. Use an accurate delivery address--check it carefully. No PO Boxes.
  3. Choose 2nd Day Air, or the Overnight option. Keep in mind Overnight is very expensive.
  4. Follow up with an e-mail to ensure the order is being processed and being followed up on. State your delivery needs. See our contact us page (link is in the shopping cart area).
  5. We will do the best we can, because your needs are important to us.

Below is a table showing CompUSA's delivery times (I found this while buying a new monitor from them--I got a great deal on it!). Note that our order processing time stops with that very first line.

Keep this in mind when you order from anybody. Shipping method is only one part of the delivery chain.

Many people like to buy our products as gifts or as presents for holidays and birthdays. While the intentions are good, the results sometimes aren't. Over the years, we've observed some things that provide helpful lessons. We're passing those on to you, here. Apply them to all of your holiday shopping, and you'll be happier.

Suppose you buy a product that seems like the perfect gift. But, it turns out not to be. For whatever reason. You go to return the item to the merchant, but it's now past the evaluation period.

  • Traditionally, surprise has been a part of gift-giving. In today's world, this is seldom realistic.
  • Traditionally, gifts have been given exactly on specific holidays. In today's world, this is often a challenge (at best).
  • To coincide with holidays, people will order a gift as close to the holidays as possible. In today's world, this is risky (late deliveries, missed deliveries, stockouts, etc.).
Unfortunately, buying something as a gift or present does not confer an extension of the 10 business day evaluation period. And that is because there are so many different gift occasions that the only way to make a return policy fair is to keep it consistent.

Viewpoint

Think of a gift as a gift, not a mandatory exchange of purchased items (which is more like a tax). This will have a positive effect on how you proceed from this point. The key to effective gift-giving isn't surprise or waiting until a certain day to give the gift. It's communication. So, here are some suggestions to make your gift-giving less stressful and more rewarding. After all, aren't you trying to create feelings of happiness with your gift?

Options

Here are some options to consider. Taking any one of these is likely to be a big improvement over older methods that are just out of step with today's world for most of us.

  • Trading surprise for delivering on time. Consider buying the gift a month ahead of the holiday and say, "Please try this. If you like it, you can have it now. This way, you can actually use it during the holidays and have an extra month of enjoying it."
  • Trading on time for maintaining surprise. Consider printing out a product page (with description and photo) and saying, "This is what I want to buy for you. If you like the, I'll have it sent here for you to try out. If you don't like it, then I will send it back and get you something else."
  • Give choice a chance. An option many people are finding very effective is simply shopping with the intended recipient. For example, Joe decides he wants his wife Mary to have a translator because her job takes her overseas a few times a year. So, they go to Mindconnection and look at all the models. Mary picks the one she wants. Joe orders it, then gift-wraps it and gives it to her perhaps at a romantic dinner. It doesn't languish under a tree while the evaluation period time clock runs.

More about choice

The "give choice a chance" approach is similar to what happens with bridal registries. It's also what many people are doing with catalog shopping. They give the other person a short list from a catalog, complete with page numbers or just mark up a catalog and give it to them.

In the example, Mary might select a translator but also select some completely different items and let Joe choose. He may decide to give her the season's ticket to the theater instead of the translator, or he might decide the other way. That keeps the surprise element in there.

Now, if they agree to "exchange gifts" two weeks before a holiday, they avoid holiday problems. Anniversaries, birthdays, and the like are not going to be a timing issue that way. But, holidays always are.

Pre-trip purchases

A final note on timing. Don't order anything just before a trip. Things happen--delivery delays due to weather problems, lost shipments, and so on can happen. Plan ahead!

Customers ask us this question frequently, and it's usually in reference to  products such as the translators. Essentially, if we offer it then it's in stock unless it's noted as "pre-order only" or "out of stock." Look for the "in stock" graphic.

If you order it before noon central time on a business day, it's almost guaranteed to ship that day. The later your order is placed, the less likely it will ship that day.

Be sure to inquire about your order if you don't receive it within 5 business days (or sooner, if anything other than Ground shipping). Just reply to one of your confirmation e-mails, type a good subject line, and type your message at the top of the e-mail. We'll follow up on that.

We offer competitive prices on all products. We are competitive because we are efficient, and because we canpass along to you discounts that many merchantssimply cannot obtain. We set a price that works best for all parties concerned.

Where you see "free shipping," that means we pay for normal ground shipping. But normal ground shipping is not available in all areas.

For example, for some product lines we offer "free Canada shipping" due to special arrangements for those products. But some areas of Canada are classified as "remote locations" and there's a surcharge. Customers who live in such areas know they do, and in such cases we will come back after the order's placed and let them know the shipping cost (we pay the normal ground portion of it, though).

Other stuff to read, if you have nothing better to do:

  • We sell what we say we sell. In one product line, we discovered a competitor was selling at less than the wholesale we pay from the factory. And we get a volume discount. Investigation showed this merchant was selling used products and passing them off as new.

  • We make good. One of our (now former) vendors provided false information on a product, shipping half of what the customer thought he was getting. We sent the customer "the other half" of his order, without any compensation from that vendor. Not our fault, but we take care of our customers. Low-ball operators don't.

  • We offer complete service. Price isn't the only element to making a good purchase. We offer elements low-ball competitors can't offer. These include pre-sale advice (through our extensive online content and through direct answers to questions), in-transit assistance (part of our job is helping to track down shipments that didn't arrive on time), post-sale assistance (everything from return assistance to product support to acting as your advocate with the manufacturer), and other means of making your purchase a good experience.

  • We are in this for the long haul. We've been in business since 1997, and we survived the dot com bomb by following sound business practices. This has positive implications for our customers, and it's a good reason to feel assured that you are dealing with a reputable firm.

Basically, we don't use your information for any purpose other than to make sure the product you ordered gets to you. Pretty simple.

What Information Do We Collect?

Security

This site has security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse, or alteration of the information under our control. We have restricted physical access to our building, an armed guard on site, an elaborate security system, restricted access  to our computers, and a working relationship with the police department in a low-crime area that has additional security measures.

So, it's not likely someone will break in and steal information about you. We do not leave any computer logged in unattended. Further, we use dynamic IP addresses for our Internet access, so every time we log on, we are somebody new--this is very frustrating to a hacker. All this is just for the non-sensitive information.

We do not partner with MLMs, e-mail spammers, or other scam artists who are out to make a buck rather than conduct their business with the goal of meeting a customer's need in a way that is both moral and ethical.

Returns are easy. Just reply to your receipt (e-mailed to you upon purchase). Change the subject line to "Need return assistance" and write that you want a refund.
  • You don't need to give us a reason.
  • Most items have a 10 business-day evaluation period. You just have to notify us, not actually return the product, within that time.
  • While we'd like to make exceptions for Christmas or other occasions, we can't.
  • Please don't just mail an item (returns may not go to the address the pkg came from).
Here are the details for folks who have questions and expect answers (don't feel bad if you are one of those people--you have a right to know). In an effort to be clear, we may seem to be a tad snippy here. If so, that's not our intention.
Shipping Fees Not Refunded

The industry convention is not to pay shipping fees for returned items (unless there's something wrong with it). We follow that convention. Home Depot has a great explanation that they send out to buyers.

If we pay shipping fees for the purchase (e.g. free shipping), we also deduct them from the amount refunded. It's typically $12 (less than our actual cost).

We don't refund the shipping fees. Those fees are for a service that has been provided.

We aren't refunding something you didn't pay for. It's standard industry practice.

Restocking Fees Paid  
Manufacturers charge a restocking fee that varies from 6.5% to 15%. We pay this (it applies to dropship items, not to those in our own inventory, so we just make sure no customer of ours has to pay it). We don't have any fine print "gotchas." We realize you can't handle the product before buying. While we do incur significant costs for a return, customers are usually delighted with the products we sell.

Electronics
1. If the unit is defective: It has a warranty. Notify us via e-mail.
 
1. The customer should not be at risk for things the customer can't control. Products have a warranty.

2. If the unit isn't defective: 10 business days to ask for return instructions (from date of arrival).

Notes:
a. The word "can't" does not mean "won't." If you have had the unit more than 10 business days, there is nothing we can do about a return, whether we want to or not.
b. The reason for missing the return time limit does not allow exceeding it. 10 days is 10 days.
c. See item 5 for security products.

2. We can't return the unit to the factory without that10 day time-stamp.

Let's look at it this way, though. How much time do you actually spend testing a product in a brick and mortar store, before buying it? Don't you really wait until you get home until you put it through its paces? With us, you can read the instructions before buying--something you typically don't do with a physical store purchase.

4. The return period begins on the delivery date, not the order date.
 
4. That works to your advantage, and it's only fair.
5. Security devices such as bug detectors and camera detectors generally cannot be returned for a refund. They are warranted against defect, though.

5. Unfortunately, too many people use a scanning device once and then want to return it. How anyone cannot see this as stealing is a mystery.
Anything downloaded: e-books, courses, software
Depending on the circumstances, we offer a store credit within 10 days of the date of purchase, which is generous compared to the industry standard of "all sales are final" on these kinds of products. Enough folks buy with the intent of getting a refund after the download is on their computer, that we follow the established standards of downloadable products. We incur development costs, so we can't be giving away intellectual products.
Supplements
You can return unopened items, and get a full refund. If an item is opened, it's yours. If the product arrives damaged, that's different--let us know so we can make it right. It is illegal to resell opened food items. Even if it weren't, the safety of our customers is too important to risk tampering.
Books, tapes, courses that ship physically
Generally, there is no refund for such items. A refund is possible, if there are exceptional circumstances. To our dismay, we discovered some people were using these items to study for an exam, then returning them when done.
What are Exceptional Circumstances?
  1. If you find a flaw in one of our downloadable courses and give us enough information to allow us to fix it, we will refund what you paid for the course or give you another one for free. This is our way of saying thanks for helping us improve.
     
  2. If you are serving in a deployed unit of the military (of any NATO country, but especially the USA) or in one of the deployed civilian units supporting overseas military operations, the manufacturer can allow an exception to the return limit. To makethe case with the manufacturer, we need some kind of auditable evidence ( .mil e-mail address works just fine). The same applies to employees of the U.S. State Department, Secret Service, and CIA.
     
  3. If you bought the item as a gift or as an occasion present, that is not an exceptional circumstance. Buying something as a gift or present does not confer an extension of the 10 business-day evaluation period.

Credit card fraud

If "you" make a purchase from with a credit card addressed in Wisconsin and pay $128 to ship $300 worth of merchandise to Indonesia, we are going to be more than a tad suspicious. In fact, we will void the order. If you see an order on your credit card and didn't place it, please e-mail all details to sales@mindconnection.com right away, with the heading "Need fraud assistance." Do not e-mail us (or anyone else) your credit card number.

This site has security measures in place to protect you against the loss, misuse or alteration of the information under our control.

Mindconnection's offices are actually in a windowless cement bunker, below grade, believe it or not!

We have restricted physical access to our building, an armed guard on site, an elaborate security system, restricted access to our computers, and a working relationship with the police department in a low-crime area that has additional security measures.

So, it's not likely someone will break in and steal information about you. Or survive, if they do.

We do not leave any computer logged in unattended. Further, we use dynamic IP addresses for our Internet access, so every time we log on, we are somebody new--this is very frustrating to a hacker. All this is just for the non-sensitive information.

Our shopping cart information exists at a data center even more secure than our headquarters. We have passed muster with http://www.geotrust.com to have a Secure Socket Layer with our company name on it.

Common concerns

People are sometimes concerned about doing transactions online:

  • When I enter my information on your forms, is that information safe?
  • I worry about sending information over the Internet.
  • I feel safer giving information over the phone.

Here are answers to those concerns:

When I enter my information on your forms, is that information safe? Yes. Any browser that changes from an http to an https is encrypting your data. That means your credit card number changes from a usable number to sheer garbage nobody can read without an encryption key.

I worry about sending information over the Internet. If you use a credit card at all, your information goes over the Internet with every transaction. That's because the method of getting credit card data from the terminal (at a restaurant, grocery store, hardware store--it doesn't matter) to the data center where the data are processed is to send it over the Internet. This has been true for a very, very long time.

I feel safer giving information over the phone. If you give your information over the phone, you are adding an unsecured communication layer on top of a secure one. Your browser is secure. Your phone is not.

 

Companies for whom we provide affiliate links have similar security measures for their sensitive information. We do not partner with MLMs, e-mail spammers, or other scam artists who are out to make a buck rather than conduct their business with the goal of meeting a customer's need in a way that is both moral and ethical.

We realize someone somewhere is capable of breaching any site's security measures. By the same token, someone somewhere is capable of entering a bank and robbing it. That doesn't keep us from doing business with banks.

What about identity theft and fraud?

The majority of the 9.3 million people who reported identity theft or fraud to authorities in 2004 weren't burned over the the Internet. In fact, 88% were defrauded without the Internet. Most folks are burned by low-tech methods. The most common methods used were dumpster diving (or trash picking) and wallet theft. Things have not changed much since then.

While many people fear Internet fraud, it simply is not a significant threat to consumers or business customers.

One reason why is the quick detection inherent in the electronic world. Another is the electronic world has security measures such as 128-bit encryption--common among secure e-commerce sites (such as Mindconnection). The US Navy tried to break a 128-bit encrypted message, using a supercomputer. After 6 months, they just gave up.

The median loss via electronic fraud or identity theft is $500, and the limit for quickly-reported (or quickly-detected) credit card fraud is $50. Who pays for the remainder of any losses? Online merchants. We merchants have a strong interest in reducing fraud. This helps you, and it helps us. While your personal losses are very limited, we merchants have full liability with zero protection.

But don't use the possibility of your losing $500 as a "reason" to avoid electronic transactions. Consumers who are defrauded by paper means (lifted checks, photographed credit cards, stolen wallets, unshredded receipts recovered from the trash) typically lose $4500 to identity thieves.

If you think the $4500 is bad, compare it to the enormous losses to individuals from dealings with certain government agencies (not the great ones we've come to know and love).

One agency in particular can, without any fear of citizen reprisal, simply steal a person's home or stick that person with an unfounded debt of several decades' wages. This agency is particularly noted for fraudulent activity and destruction of individuals. We won't name the agency here, though you probably already know who they are from the descriptoin of their abuses.

It's not the agency per se, but rogue employees of it, who do the dirty deeds. Unfortunately, these rogue employees are unsupervised and cannot be sued, investigated, or punished for their crimes. Thus, they do such things as sell your private information to identity thieves, create false tax debts they then manipulate for personal gain, run scams on small businesses, and steal government property your tax dollars then go toward replacing (source: The GAO).

E-mail works much better than calling. Which is why there's no phone number here.

You can best help us help you, by doing the following:

  1. State the problem, clearly and succinctly.
  2. Type in sentence case, not all caps (shouting) or all lower case (hard to read).
  3. If asking about a purchase already made, include your receipt (which came via e-mail).
  4. Use a good subject line. We get over 1,500 e-mails each day. Help us quickly tell yours from spam.
We normally reply within the hour if it's "regular business hours" in the Midwestern USA.
Note to AOL users. One of the conventions in e-mail is you always include the previous string in your reply. AOL must be the only e-mail client that refuses to send complete replies by default.

How to fix this:

  1. For now, just copy and paste the original e-mail into the body of your reply and type above that text.
  2. Some time soon, switch to any other e-mail client. Outlook Express is free, Outlook comes with Office, and many other good e-mail clients are available at low cost. You do NOT need to use your ISP's name as part of your e-mail address. You can get an e-mail acct with your own name for 5 bucks a year, or use a free Yahoo or gmail acct. The sooner you switch, the better off you will be.

Tax intro

If your government levies a sales tax for the product you are purchasing, it is up to you to calculate and submit that tax. If you are a resident of Kansas, we collect the state tax at time of purchase (if you are a FL resident, we also collect sales tax).

  • We do not advocate breaking the tax laws of your country or any other.
  • We do not participate in any tax avoidance schemes.
  • We do not make YOUR tax laws. Your own corrupt politicians do that, just as our own corrupt politicians make our tax laws (and don't bother to follow those laws, themselves).

Whether we collect the tax at time of purchase or you pay it at time of delivery, the tax is the same. Please note that no merchant "pays" the sales tax, excise tax, tariff, or other tax for you. Your taxes come out of your pocket, one way or another.

What's the solution? First understand this simple tax fact: Taxes = spending. The more that special interests (mostly banksters and large corporations) prevail upon your government to spend money (to benefit those same special interests, not you), the higher your tax burden will be. Money does not grow on trees, and ultimately must come from the citizens to fund whatever the government is spending it on. If you don't like paying so much tax, demand spending cuts.

Notes for buyers outside the USA (applies also to residents of E.U. or Canada)

  1. Though all USA products have massive taxes embedded in the purchase price and there are World Trade Organization agreements against your being double-taxed, your government may subject you to additional taxation in an effort to deny you access to USA goods. This is called "protectionism" and it's the means by which companies that can't or won't respond to the needs of their customers misuse the government to protect said company from competition--at your expense.
     
  2. We don't vote your politicians in, so we can't control this kind of anti-citizen activity.
     
  3. You will need to determine how much that extra tax would be, and whether you can afford it.

Additional notes for residents of  E.U .countries and Canada:

  1. If you order from outside the USA, you will likely pay VAT and/or other taxes at the point of delivery--in addition to the embedded tax present in all USA products. This is not a shipping charge, though the carrier is typically the one forced to collect this.
     
  2. We have looked into providing VAT calculations at purchase time, but doing so is not within our means. Plus, every country charges a different VAT and few countries apply VAT consistently.
  3. You buy with the understanding you will pay the VAT other charges at the time of delivery.
     
  4. If your refusal to pay the VAT results in a return of the package, you are responsible for all shipping charges incurred. We will not pay the manufacturer's restocking fees for you, nor will we pay the round trip credit card fees. So, you can plan on your refund to be about 40% less than what you paid.
  5. If your refusal to pay the VAT results in destruction (instead of return) of the package, you will not get a refund. We need the merchandise back before paying you back for it.

Why we don't collect at time of purchase

  1. Though we use a popular shopping cart system, the software for this process is not available. We have no way to make sense of the myriad tax laws so that we can collect the tax money from you at purchase time and then send checks to the various countries where our customers live.
     
  2. We do not have the resources to deal with all the Byzantine rules and various flavors of bureaucratic insanity. As it is, the export documents required for shipping run a minimum of 12 pages and sometimes shoot past the 40 page mark. Another few dead trees worth of paper to properly file the taxes in 41 foreign languages and over 950 jurisdictions is just not reasonable.

Tax Rant

  1. We are not citizens of your country. We do not have a voice in your tax laws, nor do we benefit from any government programs funded by that minimal portion of your tax proceeds that don't simply go to waste. Not that you get much benefit either, but.....
     
  2. Taxes remove capital from the economy and cause job losses. Some of this is necessary for funding the government. Yes, quite a bit of that funding is just wasted. But this doesn't justify cheating on taxes. It does justify cleaning up your government.
     
  3. Taxes are, essentially, a wage cut. If you do not like having your wages cut, then lobby to change the law. Say no to excessive taxes by saying no to unnecessary government spending. You can vote with your feet by relocating to a country that doesn't have such high taxes (that would exclude the USA, as we have the highest taxes of all industrialized nations, and yes, expatriation by the tax-weary is a major problem).
     
  4. If you're fine with paying excessive taxes and import duties, no problem. We just don't want you to blame us if you get stuck with a tax upon delivery. We don't make your tax laws (if we did, you'd be exempt!).
     
  5. If we could remove your tax burden, we would. But we can't even get reasonable taxation enacted in our own country.
     
  6. Most people have no idea just how much they actually pay in taxes. In the USA, the tax burden is now more than the typical citizen earns in a lifetime. The annual collection on this is about 85% of income through various hidden taxes, including inflation (the dollar has lost over 95% of its value since 1945--amounting to a tax of more than 95%). If our legislators believed these taxes were justifiable, they wouldn't hide them now, would they?
     
  7. People in the USA rail against the income tax, but the tax itself is actually a small part of their total tax burden and lower-income Americans actually are subsidized by it. Taxes in the USA are not mainly for the purpose of government revenue. They are for the purposes of social control and providing jobs to a massive (and growing) cadre of bureaucrats, and also for wealth transfer to the wealthiest of our citizens. In the USA, eliminating the federal income tax and the unsupervised, corrupt agency that administers it would actually cause federal tax receipts to rise dramatically.
     
  8. The two largest hidden taxes in the USA (and in most other countries) are inflation (banks make up money to issue to the govt to pay its bills) and borrowing (govt borrows, causing cost of capital to rise and be felt in every consumer purchase).

 

Solutions to your tax quagmire

  1. Vote against any legislator who approves of a spending measure for any reason. Spending drives taxes up, even if no additional taxes are legislated.
  2. Demand the elimination of specific programs, agencies, and bureaus in your government. Probably, 9 out of 10 of them serve no purpose. The remaining one is probably inefficient.
  3. Join a citizen advocacy group that legally lobbies for property rights, stewardship, and responsible government (in the USA, such concepts are still "on the drawing board.").
  4. Note: these solutions are not working in the USA, but maybe they will work in your country. Give it a shot!

What I like most about the site is it puts a lot of emphasis on things that are important to me. Also, the shopping is great--a lot better than it was even a couple months ago.
