Audio Samples

These are samples of audio from some of the languages available on the iTravl translator. The sample is "It's nice to meet you."

Sample audio: English | Chinese | French | German | Italian | Polish | Russian | Spanish

While these samples are from the translation phrasebook, this same high-quality, natural human voice is also in the translation dictionary and in the free 183-language cross-language pictured dictionary included in every iTravl translator (for the multi-language versions, the pictured dictionary is 39 languages for units with more than 9 languages in the main translation tools, for example the 19EE).

Translate

The iTravl electronic translator provides several easy to use translation tools. Because these tools all work in both directions, they allow two people with different languages to communicate.
  1. Full text translation. Enter your own random sentences. Available only in certain languages (see the specs tab of a given product).
  2. Translation dictionary. Look up single words. Natural human voice output in many language sets (see specs tab of a given product).
  3. Translating phrasebook. Contains 7,000 phrases per language (so 14,000 on any two-language translator). Natural human voice output regardless of language. Speech recognition feature for selecting phrases.
  4. Pictured dictionary. Contains hundreds of words in 183 different languages, plus natural human voice output. Translates between any two languages, and shows picture of what is being translated.

Learn

The iTravl translator provides several easy to use language learning tools.
  1. Language Teacher (most models, see specs tab). The interactive language teacher system is a powerful tool for learning other languages. It can listen to you and tell you how well you pronounce something in another language.
  2. Mobile Infotainment System (select models only, see specs tab). Basically, a hands-free version of Language Teacher.
  3. Linguistic Crossword. A crossword puzzle that helps you learn new words in the target language.
  4. Linguistic Flashcards. Four different flashcard games that help you learn new words in the target language.

  • Video Player. Video Player support the widest range of video (.asf (h2 64), .flv, .mpeg4, .h.263, .divx, .mjpeg) and image formats so you can watch on the go.
The iTravl pocket translator has even more features you'll probably enjoy, and/or find useful (or useless, depending on what you like to do). You'll find those in the "extras" menu of the iTravl you buy.
Some Features This Device Does NOT Have
The iTravl is an amazing product. But it can't do everything. Here are some features it does not have:
  • Speech to speech translation. We want to be very clear about this. You cannot talk randomly into a translation device and get a translation out.
  • Phone. The iTravl doesn't dial out.
  • A stun setting. While this would be extremely useful in airport lines and rock concerts, it is unfortunately not included in the iTravl.

Other Methods

Pocket translators aren't the only way to communicate with foreign language speakers. Here are some other methods, compared.

Smart phone apps. Sometimes, customers ask why they should buy a pocket translator instead of a smart phone app. It's a good question, because smart phones like the Android are awesome products. But then, so are pocket translators.

  1. The iTravl and 900-series pocket translators have four translation tools, and most other models have at least two. The app is only one tool, and while it is helpful it's a debutante rather than a specialist.
  2. A smart phone can hold a translation app. Pocket translators are translation devices that also hold other apps.
  3. Pocket translators work, whether you have a signal or not.
  4. Pocket translators don't report back your location, and don't have a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM card).
  5. You won't be barred from bringing a pocket translator into a secure location, because it doesn't have a camera.

Laptops. Yes, a laptop will run circles around a pocket translator if, for example, you want to crunch a big spreadsheet. But pocket translators have some advantages:

  1. A mobile device is always on. You don't need to wait for it to boot up, as you do with your laptop.
  2. A pocket translator fits in your pocket. Try getting your laptop to do that.
  3. A pocket translator weighs quite a bit less than a laptop does.
  4. With the pocket translator, you get the full functionality of translator programs, vs something pared down for laptop use.
  5. The form factor of the pocket translator is geared toward translation, and that's not true of a laptop.

Human interpretors. If you thought getting a laptop into your pocket was tough, try that with a 150 lb person! A pocket translator has some other advantages:

  1. You don't need to schedule a pocket translator to meet you somewhere.
  2. You don't need to pay a pocket translator by the hour or buy it meals.
  3. A pocket translator is a machine that provides exact translation. A human interpreter, well, interprets. So it's sometimes someone's opinion of what you meant to say instead of what you said.
  4. Human translators have varying degrees of competency. Sometimes, they guess.

Easy to Use

Tap a translation tool. Start translating. The touchscreen iTravl translator really is that simple to operate.

Be Happy

"I am very happy with my iTravl! Why should you have to waste your time and money on books trying to learn the language when you can take the easy way out and just buy this device? Now I can travel to about any country and not have to worry about the language barrier!"
-- Dwayne Pruitt, Miami, FL

What makes it deluxe? It's simply the iTravl electronic translator with a scanning pen and cradle charger.

+

pocket translator cradle charger

+ pocket scanner cpen 20
The Deluxe version is available only for certain language pairs. Among these pairs, it scans in either language (scanning in Chinese is not available).

How scanning works

  • Word or line at at time. It's a pen scanner. What activates the scanning is the pressure of the tip against the surface being scanned. Set the pen down to start the scan, lift it to stop the scan. This means you scan a word or line at a time.
  • Almost, but not quite, in real time. Scanning is one operation. OCR is the next operation. Then translation. These have to happen in that sequence, so it takes a few seconds to get a translation.
  • Displays to screen. The iTravl Deluxe scanning pen is specially modified for the iTravl Deluxe. It's not a PC peripheral. The point of the scanning feature is to optically get text input to the iTravl device and translate that text.

Multiple Languages

With the multi-language versions of the iTravl, you can switch language pairs with the tap of a finger. These are also the best value in a translation device.
