5 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 55 out of 5 Great insights, very helpful, 12.20.2010

I got laid off a few weeks after Obamacare was announced; we all called it the Job Elimination Act. No jobs anywhere, none of my contacts were even interested in discussing jobs and most of them were either out of work of fearing it. One of my contacts did, however, provide me with a temporary project and things worked nicely. Rather than blow my severance on a consulting business that might not pan out or to make fundamental errors in startup, I did some research and found this course. It's been enormously helpful. I'm still doing the temporary gigs to build up my portfolio, but plan to start the actual consulting firm early next year. Now that I know how to do it right.

I got laid off last spring and have been getting by doing short projects through a temp firm. The idea of being a consultant was attractive, so I started looking at it. A friend of mine jumped right into it (printed up cards, added phone line, set up Website, etc.--lots of money). I don't think he's doing so well. He's recently started griping about chasing down invoices and getting brain-drained for free from prospective clients. After working through this course, I decided consulting wasn't for me and the friend I just mentioned said I was missing out big time. I can now see, from his experience, what I'm missing. I know another guy who's been consulting since the mid 1990s and is doing great. But you have to get all your ducks in a row. I just don't like the ducks that come with consulting and prior to this course I didn't really know what they were.

I would have liked more practice exercises, but the tutorials and the examples were very clear.
