This is an extensive phrasebook organized by situation. So, for example, when detaining a suspect, you go to that section and you'll find pre-translated phrases developed specifically for it.
You can speak into the device to say the phrase you want, and the device will speak it back out. Or you can just tap the phrase with your fingertip. The suspect will hear the voice of a professional narrator speaking in the suspect's own language.
These are logically arranged into these main categories:
Each of these main categories has its own subcategories. For example, tap on Detention and you get:
Weapon and Package.
A small sampling of the law enforcement-specific phrases:
Do you have firearms?
Do you have any weapons?
Hand out of your pockets.
Show me what is in your hands.
Hands behind your head.
Hands on the wall.
Is this your bag?
Leave your bag here.
Open your bag.
Put the package down slowly.
We have to search you.
Get out of the vehicle.
May I search your vehicle?
Show me your vehicle registration.
Do everything very slowly.
Do not do anything until I tell you to.
Do not resist.
Do not move, or the dog will bite you.
What is your name?
Do you speak English?
Do you understand English?
What place do you come from?
Do you have any form of identification?
This section allows you to create profiles for multiple people. Each person can then add their own translations that are trained to their voice. Speaking a short command (a "voice tag") pulls up the translation in that person's voice.
John says, "Introduce me" into the unit.
The unit says (in the other language), "Hello. My name is Officer Holt. I need to ask you some questions. I don't speak Spanish, but this machine will help us talk. Did you understand what I just said?"
A simple nod is all John needs in reply.
Next, he speaks a series of other initiation words or phrases and the PD-5 speaks to the suspect each time.
You can adapt this to your organization's specific procedures.
The PD-5 understands thousands of law enforcement phrases spoken in English. It can pronounce the translations back to those who don't speak English. This hands-free/ eyes-free operational unit produces 100% understandable translations spoken by professional native-speakers. Now you have the assistance you need to make the right decision and control potentially dangerous situations.
