Translating
Lingo devices offer two translation tools:
Dictionary
Look up single words.
Translate between any two languages, not just English and another language. This device allows translation from only one of three languages (English, French, Spanish), so a departure from the traditional Lingo device.
Arranged alphabetically.
For most models, there are 20,000 words per language. This is one of those models.
How it's used in a real communication situation:
You just need a word, so you can get an idea across. What is the word for "bridge?" You need to meet someone at the bridge in an hour. Which way do you go? You look up the word "bridge" and show the translation to the other person (or, alternatively, have the unit speak it). With gestures, you indicate you want to know which way.
The other person points. Or, alternatively, the other person looks up "South" and shows you the translation. Head south, and you'll get to the bridge.
With the Eterpretor, you can take that to the next level. Not just one word, but a short sentence.
Phrasebook
Look up canned phrases.

Why Lingo
Lingo translators occupy a specific niche in the translator market. Here's what makes them distinctive:
Lingo translates in all directions. Other translators have language pairs, but Lingo translates across all languages.
Lingo standardized on 20,000 words and 2,000 phrases; This model gives you that.
Because of its dictionary size, a Lingo unit is considered a tourist-level device. For tourists, this is perfect. And very cost-effective.
