Summary
| Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) supplementation may help prevent cancer, and it can be an effective part of a nutritional program for ensuring you have adequate EFAs. |
What is it?
| Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) is an essential fatty acid that appears to have anti-cancer properties, most notably prostate cancer. By "essential" we mean your body can't produce it from any other materials. |
|
What does it do?
|
We learned from a lipids researcher that CLA does
not produce fat loss, muscle gain, etc. Generally, whatever supplement "marketing" says about it is not true.
There is some anecdotal correlation between CLA supplementation and fat loss, but nothing authoritative to show this. Also, an understanding of how CLA works in the body shows any fat loss probably is not due to CLA.
But it is an anti-oxidant. And it is an essential fatty acid. |
Usage
|
Use only as recommended. Taking more CLA means you are simply ingesting more calories. Remember, it's a fat. If your diet is low in meat and dairy, moderate CLA supplementation is probably a good idea. Overdoing it never is. There's a huge difference between smart, effective supplementation and stupid, counterproductive oversupplementation. |
Stack with
|
This isn't really something you stack with another supplement. However, you do need to consider where it fits into your total supplement program. If are are already supplementing with other fats, for example, vitamin E or perhaps an EFA supplement, then you don't want to be adding heavy amounts of CLA due to the total calories involved. |
Tips
|
Training tip Increase the intensity of your workout (fewer reps per set, with heavier weight in each set). If you do 3 sets of 10 reps, you are sacrificing intensity for conformity.
Change that silly pattern before supplementing. You should find each set harder to do than the last, so it will necessarily consist of either fewer reps or less weight. If each set is the same, you are doing something wrong. Think about the logic, here. Then, implement the change and watch your results improve. |
