Abstract: Network Security – Notes from the Field
The Internet is a more dangerous place today than at any time in its brief history. Viruses, Trojan horses, and worms have become commonplace. A computer can now become infected simply by visiting the wrong Website, clicking the wrong email attachment, connecting to the wrong network, or making the wrong instant message connection. Even greater threats can originate from within your organization. A disgruntled employee may use the Internet to conduct corporate espionage. Employees or contractors may access inappropriate content, creating a potential liability for your company. There is also a loss of productivity when employees become distracted by non-business Websites. This presentation will provide an introduction to the various threats to your network, and how they are evolving. It will describe how the production and distribution of computer “malware” has become a growing industry with a profit motive. Fred will share a few of his own experiences related to Internet threats, and present several strategies for mitigating your company’s risk.
