This presentation will discuss the challenges of achieving code compliant facilities and will discuss the advantages of using creative, performance-based designs to obtain compliance with the intent of the code, get good life-cycle performance at a reasonable price. The presentation will provide examples of how a performance-based approach has been utilized on past projects and the industry standard for establishing and documenting these performance-based approaches. These performance-based approaches have been utilized in health care facilities, institutional facilities, places of assemblies and high-tech electronic facilities.

Biography:
Jack Poole is a principal at Poole Consulting Services, Inc., He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 1986. He is a Registered Fire Protection Engineer (P.E.) in Kansas, as well as 23 other states across the USA. Mr. Poole is the Past President of American Backflow Prevention Association and a member of the National Fire Protection Association, Society of Fire Protection Engineers and the International Code Council. Mr. Poole also serves on the AWWA 146 Backflow Standards Committee.

In 1991, Mr. Poole started a fire protection engineering consulting firm, Poole Fire Protection Engineering, Inc., currently called Poole Consulting Services, Inc. Currently, Mr. Poole is a Principal of the fifteen-person firm which is located in Olathe, Kansas. The firm provides code consulting and fire protection engineering consulting and design services to architectural and engineering firms, consultants and the industry.
