About Milla Jovovich
The real name of the goddess Milla Jovovich
(pronounced "Mee-la Yo-vo-vitch") is Militza Natasa Bogdanovna
Jovovic. She was born on 17 DEC 1975 in Kiev, Ukraine (then part of
the USSR), to Bogdan (Bogdanovich) Jovovich (a pediatrician) and
Galina Jovovich (nee Loginova) (a Russian-Ukrainian actress).
In 1981 (when she was 5), her parents
emigrated from the Soviet Union to London, UK. Shortly thereafter,
they emigrated to Sacramento, CA. Shortly after that, they moved to
Los Angeles. In LA, her parents worked as house-cleaners for the
household of Brian de Palma (the famous director). Her father got
into some legal trouble and was sent to prison for several years.
That led his parents to divorce, and her single mother reared her.
Like most people from industrialized nations
outside the USA, she learned multiple languages. Hers were English,
French, German, and her native Russian. She also studied music,
ballet, and acting. Though very pretty and very talented, she wasn't
popular with other kids because she was a Russian immigrant during a
particularly tense period of the Cold War.
Her actress mother had been coaching her since
she was a toddler, and in 1984, at age 9, she caught a break. She
appeared on the cover of High Times in the UK.
At age 11, she caught the eye of photographer
Richard Avedon. Consequently, she was featured in Revlon's "Most
Unforgettable Women in the World" advertisements. She also appeared
on the cover of the Italian fashion magazine Lei.
At age 12, she was signed on to her first
professional model contract. By the time she was 19, she had
appeared on over 100 magazine covers. The year she turned 19, she
made 10.4 million dollars--making her the most highly paid of all
supermodels.
Yet, all was not smooth sailing. While
shooting to the top of the supermodel world, she also developed a
problem that is perhaps good to have. She had simultaneously
developed a serious film career, having made her debut at at 12 as "Milla"
in the 1988 movie Two Moon Junction. You can see other movies
of hers, below.
She also had some personal issues (not
identified here, out of respect for her privacy and for her as a
person) in her late teens. She eventually worked through those. She
married twice (first marriage was annulled because she was only 16),
before hooking up with director Paul Anderson. Their daughter Ever
was born on 03 NOV 2007.
Most of her fans know her as an American
actress. She's also a supermodel, fashion designer, and singer.
Increasingly, she is a public figure as well. She supports several
charities, such as
OCRF (Ovarian Cancer Research Fund),
amfAR,
Wildlands Project,
and
UNESCO World Heritage Centre.
Milla has released several critically
acclaimed musical recordings, the first of which was The Divine
Comedy in 1994. Her vocals are on soundtracks of several films.
